| Ministry Update |
Fall 2009Dear Friend,Shalom in the love and grace of our Lord and Savior! This summer has been a busy one for ministry—and, as always, challenging in many ways. One interesting avenue of ministry that has opened up is, not surprisingly, the Internet. About a year ago, I joined a site called “Odnoklassniki,” which is something like a Russian hybrid of the popular English sites “Classmates” and “Facebook.” The site has many different forums, including several religious and Christian ones. After a few months of engaging in discussions on several forums, a forum administrator invited me to be a moderator—to which I agreed. I have since had many, many wonderful opportunities to “make a defense to everyone that asks” and “give an account for the hope” of Christ that is within us (see 1 Peter 3:15). Many non-Christians engage in discussions on these forums, and I have such a wonderful and blessed opportunity to share the Gospel as well as discuss matters of doctrine, theology, and biblical interpretation. Friendships with my Russian lady friends—most of whom are Jewish—have also been moving forward. In fact, the doors seem to be opening up for me to start a women’s Bible study with several of them. This is truly an exciting ministry opportunity—for which I earnestly ask your support in prayer that our Lord would give me the wisdom and ability to lead it in a proper way, and that He would “till the hearts” of those who attend. The current economic situation, as you can imagine, has made it more difficult for me to focus on these ministry opportunities. In the past, I supplemented my part-time ministry work by doing translation work for the Slavic Gospel Association and teaching Russian as an adjunct professor at Moody Bible Institute. Due to financial reasons, neither of these organizations are able to continue employing me. God has set before missionary work with CJFM—that has yet to be fully met. I’d be very appreciative if you would consider contributing to my part-time support needs with CJFM. A regular contribution of any amount would help enable me to focus on, and further develop these ministry opportunities. Finally, please continue to keep our son, Avi, who is autistic in your prayers, and we are so grateful for the prayers you have already offered. There has been a sharp rise in his anxiety and obsessive-compulsive behaviors in the past few months—especially from the afternoon onward. We’ve been consulting with his neurologist and some of his medications have been “adjusted,” but nothing yet seems to be helping. Please continue to pray for his welfare, and grace for Michael and me as we try to be the parents he needs—and that our Lord desires us to be. In Him, Any financial contribution should be designated for Lydia Wechsler and sent to: CJF MINISTRIES
