Summer 2010 Messianic Jewish Scripture Study At Local Retirement Village While at a local congregation during our spring Messiah in the Passover presentation tour, I was privileged to meet a woman who lives in a retirement village. We chatted after the presentation, and she shared her burden for Jewish friends. Unbeknownst to her, I had been praying that God would provide a way for me to begin a new small group Scripture study on messianic prophecy. I recommended we conduct the group in her private residence rather than in a public meeting room—I suspected someone would eventually try to shut the meetings down. The only way to protect us from the inevitable was to meet in someone’s private residence. This Scripture study has been going very well and is, needless to say, the highlight of each week. The material we are covering is Messiah in the Tanakh— a 12-session study series. Response to the study has been wonderful. Everyone attending has indicated how they have enjoyed the fellowship and unique perspective it offers on the Scriptures. A few weeks ago, one of the attendees wanted to know my credentials. She was impressed that I had attended Cornell University, Tulane University, and Fuller Theological Seminary. She told me that she was so glad that I was teaching, and that the study was interesting with new information. Needless to say, I was thrilled that my credentials were impressive enough to provide credibility for our teachings. One of the women was so thrilled with the study that she wanted me to meet her six siblings and first cousins—all of whom have a Jewish mother and a Catholic father. As I arrived at the restaurant where this reunion regularly takes place, I surprisingly already knew three people in the family. I had met one of the women at a local church where I had presented Messiah in the Passover. Another woman attended services at our messianic congregation, Adat Yeshua, years earlier. Ten years ago, I had led the funeral for the brother of another Jewish man. I continued to pray for him regularly, as I was very concerned for his salvation. He was also at the reunion and we spoke at length, and at the conclusion of our dinner we prayed together and he received Yeshua as his Messiah. I cannot tell you how thankful I was for God’s faithfulness. I never imagined a reunion like this, and am so grateful to God for His faithfulness. National Day of Prayer For the third year in a row, I was invited to help lead prayers for the National Day of Prayer at Kenner City Hall. Approximately 100 people joined together to pray for our nation and community. What a privilege it was to close out this year’s session with prayer and the Priestly Benediction. The mayor of Kenner along with city council members, clergy from various denominations, as well as citizens from throughout Jefferson Parish were in attendance. A major prayer concern was the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. We hope you will join us in continuing to pray for our region. The economic and emotional toll on so many people in our area continues to worsen as the days drag on. We pray this will lead to repentance. Prayer Requests
