I believe
Believe
The other day at church, an 8 year-old girl came up to me and told me about a mean boy in her class at school. She said that he made fun of her, called her names, and said she couldn’t sing. Worse than that, she told me that this bully did not believe in Santa Claus. She added, “He doesn’t believe in Santa Claus because he doesn’t go to church!”
I wanted to laugh.
I was tickled.
This was one of the most hilarious things I had heard in a long time.
Then I pondered, What do I tell her?
As I was putting my pastoral thoughts together, she ran off to play with her friends.
For the record, our church does not preach Santa Claus.
But we do preach “faith!”
Hebrews 11:6.
At this time of the year, we should rekindle our belief in the impossible!
This is the time to believe in the miracle of Hanukkah.
This is the time to believe in the incarnation.
This is the time to believe in the virgin birth.
This is the time to believe in the Star that guided the Magi.
This is the time to believe in the angelic assembly that visited the shepherds proclaiming Messiah’s birth.
This is the time to believe that God moved into our neighborhood.
This is the time to believe that Messiah is the “same yesterday, today, and forever!”
This is the time to believe in miracles.
This is the time to believe that God wants to do something extraordinary in and through your life.
This is the time to believe the Bible!
This is the time to believe!
But let’s be real. We all have doubts and questions.
Some voice them. Most do not.
Mary had her questions.
Joseph had his doubts.
The Magi needed more information.
Yeshua Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6).
And guess what? He welcomes your questions!
