Don’t Miss It!

Moses was not permitted to enter the Promised Land.

For over 40 years, Moses had journeyed to get to Canaan.  He assisted millions of his people to make the journey as well.

But Moses made a costly mistake.  It was a mistake that cost him dearly.

In this week’s Torah reading, which includes Deuteronomy 3:23–29, Moses asks God if he could observe what he will not be able to obtain.  Moses wants a glimpse of Canaan knowing full well he will not reside there.

Why did Moses miss it?

In Numbers 20:1–13, when the Israelis needed water, God told Moses to speak to the rock.  God promised Moses that if he spoke to the rock, water would come forth.

Not too long before this occurred, the children of Israel faced a similar experience.  In the incident in Exodus 17:1–7, Moses was told to “smite” the rock.  Upon Moses’ smiting of the rock, water flowed out.

When Moses was told to “talk” to the rock, he hit it.

Big mistake!

God in His graciousness allowed the water to flow anyway, but not without serious consequences for Moses.  Moses was not permitted to enter the Promised Land.

Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:4, explains that the rock was Yeshua.

Moses marred a picture God was painting for His people.  The children of Israel were to see that “living water” (John 4:10–14) is available for the asking.

Just like Moses missed Canaan, many people will miss Heaven.

Many do not see that the Rock has already been smitten, “once for all” (Hebrews 10:10–14).

Many do not know that the living water, salvation, is free for the asking. (See Joel 2:32; Romans 10:13.)

You can go to heaven.  (Click here for more details.)

Don’t miss it!

Talk to the Rock.

Great post John. BTW, the view of the promised land Eretz Israel- from Mt. Nebo, the same location where Moses viewed the land- is one of the photos in next years Messianic Perspectives Jewish Art Calendar. I’m just sayin…
